This major international exchange between the CSPWC
and the Japanese Water Colour Society took place in 1976.
The idea for the exhibition was broached
by Ann MacIntosh Duff who had learned of contemporary Japanese
interest in Western art. With the support of exhibition
coordinator Julius Griffith, president John Bennett (1972-77),
and the financial backing of the Ontario Arts Council, planning
got underway in 1973.
No other undertaking
by a Canadian visual arts society had enjoyed such wide
institutional support for many years. Rebecca
