The Diploma Collection
is a living history of the evolution of watercolour painting
in Canada.
Spearheaded by president Rudolf Stussi (1988-91), this national
watercolour collection was established in 1991. Since then
it has been a condition of election into membership that
artists contribute one work to the collection. Artists who
were elected before 1991 were invited to contribute a painting
as well.
In 1993, we began to collect paintings of illustrious former
members to further enhance the value and significance of
the collection.
The collection now contains nearly 300 works and is housed
at the Art
Gallery of Peel in Brampton.
I am constantly impressed by
the ability of CSPWC members to push the boundaries of the
medium’s potential.
