CSPWC - National Watercolour Collection

This on-line gallery showcases the work of present and past members of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour. The originals of these works make up the CSPWC Diploma Collection which is housed at the Art Gallery of Peel in Brampton.

Robert Gagen came to Canada from England in 1865 and lived in Seaforth, Ontario. He studied painting with William N. Cresswell, and many of his early watercolours resemble Cresswell’s work. Later he taught at the Ontario School of Art and served on the Council of the Ontario College of Art. He mainly painted landscapes and marine life in Gloucester, Mass. and the Maine coast. He also painted in the Rockies. Gagen was the first honorary President of the C.S.P.W.C
